Talking About Los Angeles

Los Angeles will make national news in March, 2013:

  • With a diverse field of candidates.
  • Unprecedented city challenges, a failing state government, unmatched budget deficits, decreasing social services and a fleeting base of businesses.
  • High levels of voter apathy and growing distrust of government.

Candidate recognition is more important than ever:

  • Voters must be well-informed and actively engaged.
  • Provides organizing, research, training, and funding services to 1, 000 volunteers from dozens of organizations in southern and central California
  • Face-to-face recognition will determine front-runner results.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and a strong vision for the future will separate the winner from the rest of the pack.

A series of six conversations – devoted to important topics vital to the future of Los Angeles. Moderated by a recognized opinion leader, candidates will be given the opportunity to present their vision for Los Angeles in 2013 and beyond. This series is designed to be an honest exploration of the issues and will help shape the future of Los Angeles.

The events will be held at campuses throughout Los Angeles – proposed venues include the University of California—Los Angeles, Harbor College, California State University Northridge, Loyola Marymount University, Occidental College, and the University of Southern California – representing the geographic and community diversity that makes Los Angeles so unique.

Sponsors will be asked to partner with conversation organizers, including the Southwest Voter Registration Education Project (SVREP) and Cerrell Associates Inc. (CAI) to help underwrite the effort.
